Warriors go cold down stretch, fall to Blues 71-64

Box Score The Toronto Varsity Blues handed Waterloo another OUA defeat on Saturday night, this time by a score of 71-64.  The Warriors battled the Blues to the bitter end but came up short allowing the Blues too many open looks from beyond the arc that clinched the victory for the visiting side.

Waterloo got to within one of the Blues (61-60) with only 3:25 remaining but the Blues began to find their stride thanks to sharp shooting from Ben Garvin (Holland Landing) and strong drives by Alex Hill (Toronto).  The Blues took a seven point lead with only a minute remaining in the game and held on for that margin of victory to improve to 2-2 on the season.  With the loss Waterloo remains winless at 0-3.

It was a case of hot hand and cold hands for much of the game at the PAC. Hill was hot for Toronto, hitting 10 of 14 shots en route to a game high of 27 points.  Meanwhile Waterloo hit just 23% from three point line and missed a good number of layups and five foot shots.

Waterloo did spread out the scoring, with five players hitting for double figures. Kyrie Coleman (Washington/) led the way for the Warriors with 15 points and nine rebounds. Mike Helsby (Waterloo/) and Ben Davis (Mississagua/) each had 11 points in the loss.

The winless Warriors will look to turn things around next weekend when they continue their cross-conference play with Laurentian and York before returning home the following weekend to close out 2012 against Carleton and Ottawa.
