Jiwoun has always loved participating in group fitness programming. She especially enjoys the positive energy of group fitness classes. When Jiwoun is having a difficult day, she is motivated by her class participants. Their smiles and engagement in the class bring Jiwoun joy.

If you are nervous about partaking in your first Zumba class, Jiwoun reminds participants that, "everyone is busy doing their own move. No one is watching you; no one is judging you. We are all here to have fun"

Cycling instructor since 2020

MASc'22 - Human Factors, Systems Design Engineering

For Mohamed, coaching is one of the most rewarding jobs ever. Mohamed especially enjoys the opportunity to have shared experiences with class participants - the high points and struggles. It is through these shared experiences that Mohamed builds community in his classes. Therefore, while each participant has their own purpose for cycling, the growth is collective.

Mohamed's classes focus largely on recover and self-compassion. In other words, Mohamed reminds students to be kind to themselves, especially their body's. Remember, 80% of training should be of recovery. Mohamed fosters a relaxed and welcoming environment in his classes by encouraging conversation and taking the time to get to know each participant.

Commonly Asked Questions

Before class begins, please display your Registration Confirmation to the instructor. Please leave your belongings in the changeroom. If it's your first time attending a fitness class, staff at the PAC/CIF service desks will be able to direct you to the changerooms and correct studio.

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and gives you freedom to move! Opt for lightweight and breathable fabrics

For classes that require shoes, wear sneakers or trainers. Wondering what's the difference? Sneakers are generally used as running shoes, meaning they're supportive and designed for forward movement. Conversely, trainers are designed for lateral movement and are typically lighter weight. Either option will work great for our classes!

Bring a full waterbottle to all fitness classes! Additionally, bring your phone so you can display your Registration Confirmation to the instructor.

In relevant classes, you may bring your own yoga/exercise mat. However, this is not required. All studios are equiped with mats.

It's perfectly understandable to be nervous before attending your first fitness class - but there's no reason to be! Instructors aim to create a welcoming environment that fosters interaction, community building, and friendships. Fitness classes are non-competitive, supportive spaces where participants collectively work towards their individual fitness goals.

Everyone is at a different place in their fitness journey - our classes reflect this individuality. Instructors aim to support all participants' fitness needs by providing different exercise options and modifications. If you require assistance or clarification with an exercise, don't hesitate to ask. Our instructors will be more than happy to assist!

Absolutely! If you feel comfortable doing so, you may disclose your accessibility needs to the instructor prior to the start of the class. This will help the instructor provide appropriate options and modifications throughout the fitness class to meet your needs

Always remember to listen to your body. If an exercise doesn't feel right, let the instructor know, so they can provide an alternative option.
