Athletic Council Student-Athlete Award

One or more awards, ranging in value, have been established by the Interuniversity Athletic Council for student-athletes who are members of a varsity team. To qualify, candidates must be in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need and have made a leadership contribution to a varsity team or the Athletic Department in general. Interested students are to submit a bursary application by the applicable term deadline.

Black or Indigenous Heritage Student-Athlete Bursary

Bursaries, valued at up to $2,000 each, are available to Black and Indigenous student-athletes who are members of any varsity team. Selection is based on demonstrated financial need, as determined by the University of Waterloo. Interested students are to submit a bursary application by the applicable term deadline. This fund is made possible by the Waterloo Warriors.

Biuck Morad Athletic Excellence Award

Two awards, valued at $3,000 each, are given to exceptional student-athletes enrolled in the School of Accounting and Finance, or more generally the Faculty of Arts, who best display the values and mission of the interuniversity athletics program. Preference will be given to candidates who best demonstrate the impact this award will have on their ability to pursue excellence both in the classroom and on their respective field of play. Recipients must be qualified student-athletes, enrolled in full-time studies both at the time of application and payment of the award, with a minimum academic average of 80%. An application is required by November 1. This award is supported by University of Waterloo alumnus, Nakisa Bidarian (BA '01, Economics), in memory of his grandfathers, Biuck Agha "Babje" Ashtaryeh and Morad Ali "Agha Jhune" Bidarian, who instilled in him the core values of integrity, excellence, and family.

Campus Recreation Bursary

This bursary may be awarded annually to a student, or students, who display strong leadership contribution to the Campus Recreation programs. Selection is based on demonstrated financial need, as determined by the University of Waterloo. Don McCrae Athletic Bursary

One or more awards up to $3,000, have been established for students who are members of the University of Waterloo men's or women's varsity basketball team, men’s or women’s varsity volleyball team, or men’s or women’s varsity ice hockey team. Selection is based on demonstrated financial need, as determined by the University of Waterloo. Interested students are to submit a bursary application by the applicable term deadline.

Environment Student-Athlete Award

An award, valued at $1,500, will be provided annually to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student whose primary academic plan is in the Faculty of Environment and who is a member of a Warriors varsity team. Selection is based on academic excellence, demonstrated interest in environment and sustainability leadership, as well as athletic talent and contribution to Warrior Athletics. To be considered, first-year students must have a minimum admission average of 80% while returning students must have a minimum cumulative average of 75%. Interested students should submit an application by November 1st. This fund is made possible by donations from Faculty of Environment community members, including Alumni and former Environment student-athletes, and lead alumni donor champion, Derek Coleman (Ages Foundation), PhD ‘74.

Fairfax Financial Athlete Leadership Scholarships

Four scholarships, valued at $4,000 each, are presented annually to four exceptional upper-year student-athletes who best display the values and mission of the interuniversity athletics program. To be eligible, candidates must be qualified student-athletes, enrolled in third- or fourth-year, have a minimum overall academic average of 80%, and have a demonstrated interest in finance or business (e.g., data science, financial services, or insurance).  This scholarship is funded by a donation made possible by Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited.

Mark Forster Memorial Award

An award, valued at up to $500, was established by friends, relatives and classmates of Mark Cameron Forster, BSc, in recognition of his contributions to the Kinesiology and Athletics programs at the University of Waterloo. The award will be presented annually to a third- or fourth-year Kinesiology student who has achieved a minimum 75% average, has participated in varsity athletics, has a high level of involvement in the athletics program and has contributed to the Kinesiology program as a Kinesiology Student Association member or through other activities.

Ross & Doris Dixon Student-Athlete Award
