Warriors split weekend games with powerhouse Thunderwolves

Tim Rossy scored a career high 26 points in the upset victory over Lakehead on Friday night

Waterloo upset the first place Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday night with a 79-65 victory at the PAC.

Tim Rossy (Winnipeg/Silver Heights) had another career high, and his third 20-plus effort in the last four games to lead the Warriors. Rossy had 26 points, while Luke Kieswetter (Waterloo/Kitchener C.I.), Brendan Smith (Kamloops/Sa-Hali S.S.) and Wayne Bridge (North York/Eastern Commerce) also hit for double figures.

Jamie Searle and Venzal Russell led the Thunderwolves with 18 and 16 points respectively.

With the win Waterloo (8-9) has created a four-way tie for fourth place in the OUA West. Waterloo, Western, Brock and McMaster all have 8-9 records with five games remaining on the schedule. Lakehead retains first place with a 13-4 record.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the PAC. Game time is 8:00pm

The Warriors split the weekend series with the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves. Lakehead responded with a 65-58 win on Saturday night after a Waterloo win on Friday.

On Saturday, the Warriors held a two point lead at half time, but a Lakehead comeback provided their victory.

Alan Goodhoofd (Oakville/Kings Christian) had 12 points, while Wayne Bridge (North York/Eastern Commerce) and Brendan Smith (Kamloops/Sa-Hali S.S.) added 11 each. Jamie Searle had 24 points for Lakehead.

Waterloo (8-10) is now tied with Brock for sixth place, the final playoff spot. Both teams have four games remaining. Waterloo plays three of those on the road, with the only home game scheduled for Wednesday, Feb 16 against Laurier.
