The University of Waterloo's varsity swim team had an impressive showing at the NYAC Cup held on November 11th at Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.
Hannah Gallagher (Waterloo/) set a new Warrior record in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:02:22, finishing in 3rd place and surpassing Josie Andres' record set in 2018. This meet was the last for the Warrior Swimming team before Divisionals, which will take place on November 25th-26th at the University of Toronto. The team's strong performance at NYAC, including several personal bests, is a promising indicator that they'll be ready to compete at the Merrily Stratten Divisional Championships.
Lukas Wormald (Kitchener/) continued his winning form this season with 1st place finishes in the 50m Freestyle (22:69) and 200 Individual Medley (2:06:35). Other top three finishers included
Suyeong Choi (Kitchner/) and
Aidan Iapicco (St. Catharine's/) in the 200m Breaststroke, with Choi taking 1st place and Iapicco finishing with a time of 2:17.65.
Joshua Dancey (St.John's/) also had a strong showing, finishing in 3rd place with a time of 2:23.55.
In the 400m Freestyle,
Megan Frost (Pointe Claire/) finished in 1st place with a time of 4:23.15, followed by
Ema Masic (Toronto/) in 2nd place with a time of 4:29.74, and
Josie Santaguida (Whitby/) in 3rd place with a time of 4:38.10.
Alex Boden (Dundas/) finished in 1st place in the men's 400m Freestyle with a time of 4:02.84, followed by
Cristian Ciorogariu (Waterloo/) in 2nd place with a time of 4:11.95. In the 100m Fly,
Alex Boden (Dundas/) finished in 2nd place with a time of 56.60, while
Alex Rus (Waterloo/) finished in 3rd place with a time of 57.66.
Nicole Lau (Aurora/) finished in 3rd place in the 200m Individual Medley with a time of 2:25.20.
The University of Waterloo's swim team had a strong showing in the 400 Freestyle Relay as well. The women's team finished in 3rd place with a time of 3:59:84, with
Katherine Ye (Toronto/),
Alyssa Zhang (Mississauga/),
Ema Masic (Toronto/), and
Nyla Smith (Calgary/) all contributing. The men's team finished in 1st place with a time of 3:31:35, thanks to the efforts of
Samuel Pei (Richmond/),
Raymond Duong (Markham/),
Lukas Wormald (Kitchener/), and
Alex Boden (Dundas/). The team of
Gavin Lusby (Oakville/),
Alex Rus (Waterloo/),
Cristian Ciorogariu (Waterloo/), and
Charles Marcial (Mississauga/) finished in 2nd place with a time of 3:32:99.
Overall, the University of Waterloo's varsity swim team performed exceptionally well at the NYAC Cup, setting records and achieving personal bests. Fans and supporters of the Warriors will be eagerly anticipating their upcoming performance at the Divisionals.
