The Warriors had been eagerly anticipating the OUA Championships all season, and they finally got to host the event on their home course at Columbia Ice Field this weekend. The women's team was especially motivated to put their home course advantage to good use.
Paige Breedon (Barrie/), the team's top runner, had an amazing race and finished in 12th place. Her performance earned her a spot on the second-team OUA all-star list, a well-deserved recognition for her hard work and dedication.
Hillary Clark (Elliot Lake/) also had a strong showing, finishing just a few spots behind Breedon in 17th place. The rest of the women's team also put in a solid effort, with
Olivia Vanleeuwen (Guelph/), rookie
Chloe Vincent (Waterloo/), and
Nicole Schindler (Waterloo/) rounding out the top five. Their collective performance was enough to earn the Warriors a 6th place finish, securing their spot in the upcoming U SPORTS Championships in London in two weeks' time.
The men's team also gave it their all in their race.
Adam Huras (New Hamburg/) led the way for the Warriors, finishing in 44th place.
Massimo Calcagno (Mississauga/Mississauga) and
Jonathan Lysack (Brandon/Brandon) followed closely behind, putting in strong performances of their own. It was a particularly impressive race for rookie
Connor Hickling (Aurora/), who made his OUA debut and showed that he's a force to be reckoned with.
Cameron Dean (Whitby/) rounded out the Warrior's top five with a solid run. Although the men's team finished in 13th place, they remained optimistic and focused on their upcoming track season. With their hard work and determination, they are sure to achieve great things in the future.
