Waterloo, ON - In a thrilling match-up on Sunday in the 2023 OUA Championship Game, the Waterloo Warriors faced off against the Toronto Varsity Blues after the original gold medal game was delayed by 24 hours due to inclement weather. The game had to go into an extra inning to declare a winner. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the Varsity Blues emerged victorious with a 6-5 win, regaining the OUA Baseball Championship.

 The game started with two deadlocked innings, but the Waterloo Warriors broke the stalemate in the bottom of the third inning. They managed to score two runs on back-to-back bases-loaded walks before Alex Seelman (Georgetown/) moved the runner on a sacrifice fly. Sean Skorupsku recorded the score, giving the Warriors a 3-0 lead. The Toronto Varsity Blues managed to get one run back in the top of the fourth inning.

The Warriors regained a three-run cushion in the bottom of the sixth inning as Evan Morrison (Mitchell/) singled on a line drive to left field to bring Sam Shepherd in for the score. 

The Varsity Blues made an impressive comeback in the top of the seventh inning by reaching the bases with six consecutive batters, scoring two of those runners. They narrowed the lead to one by grounding into fielder's choice and continued to push in the eighth inning, tying the game and forcing an extra inning. In the tenth inning, the visiting Varsity Blues took the lead with a line drive to right field, allowing Cellupica to score the go-ahead run.

Waterloo didn't give up easily, and Sam Read (Waterloo/) capitalized on a balk by Toronto on the team's very first at-bat in the bottom of the tenth inning, getting within one.

However, Toronto's closer, Owen Taylor, recorded back-to-back strikeouts on the ensuing at-bats to secure a 6-5 victory.
