Slow start costs Warriors in home opening loss

Box Score The Warriors had a stellar second half putting up 30 points but a slow start which saw Waterloo score just 13 points cost the black and gold in a 48-43 loss to the Western Mustangs in their home opener on Saturday at the PAC.

Waterloo shot 32.1% compared to just 26.2% for the visiting Mustangs but it was the turnovers the made the difference as Waterloo gave the ball away 15 times in which Western turned into 18 points.

Three Warriors reached double digits with Sydney Wilson (Guelph/) leading the way with 11 while Afifa Salad (Cambridge/) and rookie Ann Stewart (Yellowknife/) each put up 10.  On the boards Caitlin MacLeod (Mississauga/) led the Warriors with seven while Wilson had six.

For the Mustangs Maddy Horst led the attack with 14 points while Julian Carran had 14 rebounds.

The Warriors will now make the trek up north to face Laurentian (Friday) and Nipissing (Saturday) next weekend.  Both games are set for 6pm.
