Naismith Day 3 Recap: Blues, Gee-Gees claim tournament titles

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Toronto Varsity Blues (women) and Ottawa Gee-Gees (men) both went a perfect 3-0 in the 49th annual Naismith Classic to take home the tournament titles.

Toronto beat the St. FX X-Women 63-44 in the final day of action to claim the championship. Charlotte Collyer led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds while Keyira Parkes had nine points in the tournament clinching win.

Ottawa toped the UQAM Citadins 70-52 to also finish 3-0. The Gee-Gees were led by Jean Emmanuel Pierre who had 17 points while Brandon Robinson and Brody Maracle put up 13 and 15 respectively.

In the Warriors action, the women fell to the York Lions 51-34. York finished the tournament 2-1 while Waterloo dropped to 1-2. Sydney Wilson (Guelph/) led the black and gold with 11 points in the tournament finale. The Warriors will have one more pre-season game, this Thursdy at Humber College before their regular season home opener on Oct. 28 against Western (12pm - PAC).

In the final game of the tournament, the Waterloo men's squad got outplayed by the Regina Cougars in a 95-73 loss. Waterloo shot just 39% from the field compared to 45.6% for Regina. Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) had 20 in the loss while Simon Petrov (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) and David Ramon Prados (Madrid/Virgen de Atocha (North Platte College)) each had 14. The Warriors will have two more pre-season contests on the road next week as they travel to Michigan to face Michigan Dearborn on Thursday and Rochester College on Friday. They will then prepare for their home opening tilt with Western on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2pm.
