The Warriors put forth a gutsy effort in their second battle of Waterloo game of 2017 but came up short by a score of 61-55 on Saturday afternoon at the PAC.
Nicole Morrison of Laurier hit back to back three's in the fourth quarter for six of her game high 18 points to sink the Warriors in this contest. Laurier outscored Waterloo 19-12 in the final quarter which would be the difference but the new-look Warriors went toe-to-toe with a very good basketball program.
Laurier shot 34.3% from the field compared to Waterloo's 26.5% but Waterloo operated much better from the free throw line going 13-for-16 while the Hawks went 5-for-12.
Waterloo's seniors had their offence going as
Kristen Osborne (Markham),
Emily Wilk (Oakville) and
Jenel Ulman (Hamilton) were all in double figures. Osborne led the way with 14 points while Wilk and Ulman had 12 and 11 respectively. Ulman also had a massive night on the boards with 10 rebounds.Â
Hilary Ferguson (Cambridge) was also in double figures with 10 points in her 13 minutes of action.
Morrison led the Hawks with 18 points while Sarah Dillion was the only other Golden Hawk in double figures in points with 11 off the bench.Â
The Warriors will kick off a three game road trip on Wednesday in St. Catharines against the Brock Badgers.
