Nipissing knocked down three straight from downtown late in the fourth quarter and that would prove to be the difference as Waterloo fell to the Lakers 62-55 on Friday night at the PAC.
Waterloo found themselves up 52-50 with just over four minutes remaining but a Jamie Soffer jump shot followed by three straight 3-pointers (two coming from Marla Corney) put the Lakers on a 11-0 run and they did not look back en route to their first victory of the season. Nipissing improved to 1-6 on the season while the black and gold dropped to 2-4.
Emily Wilk (Oakville) and
Kristen Osborne (Markham) has strong games for the black and gold with 20 and 11 points respectively. Wilk was 9-for-16 with two from beyond the arc while adding six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Osborne was 5-for-15 from the field with two boards and two assists.
Off the bench
Aphia Ward (Beaumont) had six points with two 3-pointers while
Sydney Wilson (Guelph) also put up six.
For the visitors, Marla Corney had 20 points with nine coming from outside while Heidi Smith also had a strong game with 15 points in the win.
