Osborne's 32 points not enough as Warriors fall to Mustangs

The Waterloo Warriors did not have a third comeback as they fell on Wednesday night to the visiting Western Mustangs by a score of 76-66.
 
The Warriors had a slow start to the game, scoring just three points in the first quarter and down 13-3. But the buckets started coming in the second, especially from Kristen Osborne (Markham), as she scored 16 of Waterloo's 24 points in the second and the game was close again. Waterloo briefly went ahead, but at half time Western led 29-27.
 
Western opened the second half with a 10-0 run over the opening two minutes and had a double digit lead. This time the comeback was keyed by 11 points from Elizabeth Holmes (Welland), who hit three 3-pointers from the corner. After three quarters of play, the Warriors held a slim 52-51 lead.
 
To open the fourth, Western went on another 10-0 run and this time Waterloo could not overcome the gap. They did narrow the score to just 4 points with four minutes to play, but could not regain the lead.
 
Kristen Osborne (Markham) led the Warriors with 32 points, with Elizabeth Holmes (Welland) adding 11 and Emily Wilk (Oakville) 10 points. The Warriors shot 36% on the night.
 
Western got 28 points from Maddy Horst and 21 from Caroline Wolynski. Waterloo native Julie Curran had a double-double for Western with 10 points and 14 rebounds. 

The next game for Waterloo will be Saturday afternoon as the Warriors travel to meet division rival Windsor Lancers. Game time is 3:00pm and can be viewed at oua.tv.
