Box Score Who knew all it would take was a trip to northern Ontario to get the ball rolling for the women's basketball team who won their second straight game on their road trip, topping the Nipissing Lakers 64-58 on Saturday night. Â
The two combatants were pretty much even through the opening 20 minutes of the contest but the Warriors provided separation in the third, outscoring the Lakers 17-8 in that quarter. Â
With the win, Waterloo improved to 2-9 while Nipissing dropped to 2-8. Â The Warriors were successful getting into the paint and earning trips to the line where they shot 84.2% (16-for-19) compared to 64.3% for the Lakers. Â Waterloo also made good on turnovers with 17 points when forcing the home side into errors.
"We had to dig deep against a very well coached team," said head coach
Tyler Slipp following the win. Â "For the second straight night, our effort at the defensive end was the difference."
Waterloo got a solid effort from rookie forward
Nicole Schlick (Prince George) who was a force at both ends of the floor. Â Schlick finished with 14 points while adding a very impressive nine rebounds. Â
Kristen Osborne (Markham) was her usual self, scoring when needed and finishing with a game high 17 points while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the line. Â

Emily Wilk (Oakville) capped off a tremendous weekend where she played all but seven minutes. Â In this game, Wilk put up 11 points while knocking down two of three attempts from beyond the arc. Â Off the bench,
Elizabeth Holmes (Welland) hit some crucial three's in the second half. Â In total, Holmes hit three from downtown to finish with nine points.
For Nipissing, guard Claire Abbott finished with 23 points going 7-for-16 from the field while hitting five free throws on six attempts.
Waterloo will look to make it three straight on Wednesday night against the Western Mustangs in a home contest, 6pm at the PAC. Â
