Second quarter lapse sinks Warriors in loss to Lancers

Box Score It's been a long time since the Warriors have competed with the Windsor Lancers, but Waterloo did just that against the five time national champions today at the PAC.

Despite the 88-63 loss, the Warriors stuck with the Lancers for 30 of 40 minutes played.  Unfortunately for the black and gold, that 10 minute lapse was too much to overcome down the stretch.

Waterloo outscored the Lancers 19-18 in the opening quarter in what was exciting and up-tempo basketball by the Warriors.  Unfortunately the talented Lancers' found their stride in the second quarter and outscored Waterloo 31-8.  The two combatants would stay even the rest of the way but the second quarter breakdown would prove costly for the black and gold.

As a team the Warriors shot 36.2% from the field while Windsor didn't fare much better at 42.5% but the difference came from three point land for the visitors as they sunk 11 of 28 attempts.  Waterloo was just 2-for-21.

Caitlyn Longmuir made all the difference going 6-for-8 from long range while adding two free throws for a game high 10 points.  Andrea Kiss added 16 in the Lancer attack while Cheyanne Roger had 14.

For Waterloo, it was starting point guard Emily Wilk (Oakville) who was sharp early and often.  The third year kinesiology student was 5-for-16 from the field while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the line.  Wilk also added a team high five rebounds in the contest.

Rookie forward Nicole Schlick (Prince George) was also in double figures with 14 points in her 25 minutes of action.  Schlick went 7-for-9 from the field.  Jacqui Rodrigues (Waterloo) was the third and final Warrior in double digits with 12 points in a losing effort.

The Warriors will be back in action on Wed as they battle the Toronto Varsity Blues on the road.  Tipoff is set for 6pm.
