Box Score The Waterloo Warriors hosted the Ryerson Rams for their OUA season opener on Wednesday night and fell by a score of 81-47 to the visitors. Rookie
Amy Jarvis (Burlington) was a bright spot for the Warriors as she scored 11 points off the bench and shows a lot of promise for the future of the Warriors program.
Ryerson set the tone early by opening with a 10-3 run and holding a 22-10 edge after the first quarter. In the opening half Ryerson was shooting at a 49% clip, while the Warriors struggled with 26% shooting. Ryerson was also spreading the scoring with 10 players hitting the scoreboard in the first half. At half time, Waterloo was behind 43-21.
The Warriors did have a promising 8-2 start to the second half, but a 13-2 run for the Rams ended any thoughts of Waterloo making it a close game. In the end, Ryerson had a 34 point win and play spoiler in the black and gold's season and home opener.
Jarvis was the lone Warrior in double figures, scoring 11 points off the bench while
Marti Killeen (Oakville) had 8 points, 2 assists and 1 block.
Emily Wilk (Oakville) also had a solid game with 7 points and 1 steal.
Ryerson had four players in double figures led by Keneca Pingue-Giles with 15 points and Mariah Nunes with 12. The Warriors were plagued by 27 turnovers and just 1-for-17 shooting from the three point line.
The next game for the Warriors is Friday night as they host the Toronto Varsity Blues. Game time is 6:00pm at the PAC and will be streamed on OUA.TV.
