Box Score The Waterloo Warriors hosted the Carleton Ravens on Saturday evening in front of a raucous crowd. In a close game throughout the night (there were 11 ties and 10 lead changes), the visiting Carleton Ravens had the upper hand in the closing minutes and went home with a 63-58 win.
Amy Jarvis (Burlington),
Emily Wilk (Oakville) and
Jenel Ulman (Hamilton) sparked a comeback and combined for nine straight Waterloo points to tie the game midway through the fourth quarter. A short time later an
Ally Vonk (Burlington) free throw with 3:07 remaining gave Waterloo a brief 56-55 lead. But in those last three minutes, Waterloo was unable to score when needed and Carleton closed with an 8-2 run and take the victory from the Warriors.
The difference came inside was Carleton's Lindsey Suprunchuk who had 22 points and 14 rebounds while Lindsay Shotbolt chipped in with 18 points and 11 rebounds. In total, Carleton out-rebounded the Warriors 48-36 and outscored the Warriors 22-10 from the foul line which was a key different in the match.
The first half ended with a 29-29 tie after each team traded a number of runs. Carleton led early at 7-2 only to have Waterloo go on a 9-2 run and change the lead again. In the second quarter with Waterloo up 7 points, Carleton had a 9-0 run for another lead change. It was a pattern for the game with neither team allowing the opposition to gain a stranglehold on the match.
Waterloo was led by
Madison Behr (Ancaster) with 12 points, while
Marti Killeen (Oakville) had 11 and
Amy Jarvis (Burlington) rounded out the double digit scoring with 10 points.
Ally Vonk (Burlington) had 8 rebounds for the Warriors.
With the loss, Waterloo drops to 1-5 on the season and are in fourth place in the OUA West. Carleton improves to 3-3 and second place in OUA North. Waterloo will host division rival Wilfrid Laurier on Wednesday night at 6pm to close out the pre-exam schedule. The game can be seen on OUA TV.
