Box Score The Warriors gave the No. 7 Laurier Golden Hawks a tougher test then they expected but a strong third quarter gave the home side a 76-52 win on Wednesday night for their fourth straight win.
The Hawks outscored Waterloo 26-10 in the third and that would be the difference in their 13
th win of the season. In contrary it was Waterloo's 13
th loss of the season and 10
th straight defeat.
Leading the way for the purple and gold were Courtney Bruce of Orillia, Ont., and Doreen Bonsu of Oakville, Ont. Bruce, who played a season-high 21 minutes, finished the game 6-for-12 from the floor for a career-high 13 points. Her previous career-high for points in a game was 12 which came against the same Waterloo Warriors back on February 15, 2012.
As for Bonsu, the fourth year forward had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds in a solid all-around effort.
Two Warriors reached double figures in the loss with
Marti Killeen (Oakville/) and
Emily Wilk (Oakville/) both collecting 10 points while
Madison Behr (Ancaster/Dundas Dynamo) had nine. On the boards, Wilk led all players with 10 rebounds with Killeen collecting nine.
A key stat in Wednesday's game was the Hawks strong defence which forced the Warriors into 23 turnovers, compared to just 11 for the Hawks. As a team, Laurier shot 42 percent (32-for-76) from the floor while Waterloo shot 38 percent (21-for-55).
The Warriors will face another tough test as they face the number one team in the country on Saturday when they take on the Windsor Lancers.
