Mustangs gallop past Warriors

The Western Mustangs tallied the first 14 points and did not look back en route to a 73-30 win over the winless Waterloo Warriors on Wednesday night at the PAC.  With the win the Mustangs improve to 10-8, good for third spot in the OUA west while Waterloo remain in the basement.

The Warriors had some good looks in the early going but nothing was dropping for the home side as they finished with a lowly 17.2% from the field.  In comparison Western was 42% from the field while going 13-for-20 for the line. 

Second year guard Emma Nieuwenhuizen (Strathroy) led all played with 21 points with an impressive 10 field goals on 12 attempts.  Fourth year guard Jenny Vaughn (Dundas) also had a strong game with 18 points of her own.  Mara Greunke (Langen) was strong on the boards with a total of 12 rebounds in the win.

For the Warriors it was rookie forward Gia Spiropoulos (Belleville/) who led her team with eight points while five other Warriors had four points each.  Mackenzie Lougheed (Owen Sound/Owen Sound) led her squad in rebounds with eight while Kate Kuntze (Stratford/) picked up two blocks in a losing effort.

The Warriors will finish their regular season with three straight road games, the first a meeting with the McMaster Marauders on Saturday in Hamilton at 1pm.
