Box Score The Waterloo women's basketball team found the win column for the first time in almost two years with a convincing 60-41 win over the Algoma Thunderbirds on Saturday night at the PAC.
The Warriors used a strong third quarter performance in which they outscored the T-Birds 23-5 to pick up the win. That third quarter onslaught included a 14-0 run led by rookie
Kristen Osborne (Markham/) and third year guard
Marti Killeen (Oakville/).
Osborne continued where she left off in her Warrior debut just one night ago notching 14 points in the win. The first year arts student shot lights out going 5-for-7 from the field including two from beyond the arc. She was also 2-for-3 from the line.
Killeen was also a scoring threat for the black and gold with 14 points of her own while adding nine rebounds (1 offensive, 8 defensive). Rounding out the Waterloo attack was fourth year guard
Madison Behr (Ancaster/Dundas Dynamo) who hit three 3-pointers and had nine points overall in the contest. On the boards
Ally Vonk (Burlington/) had a strong game collecting 10 rebounds.
For Algoma Laura Meadows and Jenni Thompson each had eight points in a losing effort.
As a team Waterloo shot 36.7% from the field compared to Algoma's 26.2% while the Warriors hit 10 from the charity stripe.
The Warriors will now go on their first road trip of the season next weekend when they travel to Toronto to take on Ryerson Friday night followed by the Varsity Blues on Saturday.
