Warriors falter down stretch to Gryphons

Box Score The Waterloo Warriors dropped a Wednesday night contest to the Guelph Gryphons 82-61 at the PAC.  Waterloo got to within 10 in the late going but could not climb their way back as the Gryphons outscored Waterloo 21-14 in the final quarter.

With the win, Guelph's first since Dec.1, the Gryphons improve to 5-9 on the season while the Warriors remain winless with a 0-14 record. The Gryphons are currently in seventh place with 10 points in the OUA West however they sit only two points behind Lakehead, Laurier and McMaster who are all tied with 12 points.

Fifth year Jasmine Douglas (Guelph, Ont.) tallied a double-double recording 18 points and 13 rebounds. She was 6-of-10 from the floor, while also adding three blocks, three steals and shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. First year Jasmine Douglas (Alma, Ont.) added 17 points while third-year Kayla Goodhoofd had 16 points and an impressive 10 steals.

Leading the Warriors was Erika Persson (Lund/) with 14 points going 4-for-10 from the field and 4-for-4 from the line.  Madison Behr (Ancaster/Dundas Dynamo), Kate Kuntze (Stratford/) and Sam McIntyre (Waterloo/) each had nine points in the loss.

Leading 45-29 at halftime the Gryphons continued lay on the defensive pressure in the third quarter to build a lead that would not diminish. The Gryphons forced 32 Waterloo turnovers in the contest and by the end of the third quarter held a convincing 61-47 lead. In the fourth quarter Guelph outscored the Warriors 21-14 to seal the victory.

The Warriors are back at it on Saturday when they host the No. 1 Windsor Lancers for Fantastic Alumni, Staff and Faculty Day at the PAC.  Tip-off is set for 2pm.
