Box Score
The Waterloo women's basketball team dropped their YBA game day 70-54 to the McMaster Marauders on Saturday afternoon at the PAC.
The injuries continue to mount as Waterloo lost yet another start as third year forward
Kate Kuntze (Stratford/) suffered a cut to her head on an innocent looking fall midway through the second quarter. The depleted Warriors gave all the Marauders they could handle but in the end lost their legs and dropped their 13
th game of the season. McMaster is now one game within .500 with the win at 6-7 on the season.
The Warriors outshot McMaster from the field at 40% compared to 31% but could not minimize their turnovers as they handed the ball over to the Marauders 32 times. McMaster was all over the offensive rebounds with 20 in the game while Waterloo had 12. The Marauders also made 34 trips to the free throw line and were successful on 25 attempts.
After trailing by 13 through three quarters of play, the gutsy Warriors would come within eight thanks to strong drives by
Sam McIntyre (Waterloo/) and determination in the paint by
Gia Spiropoulos (Belleville/) but McMaster would weather the storm to secure the 16 point victory.
Hailey Milligan (Brantford) led all scorers in the game with 18 points going 5-for-13 from the field while sinking eight free throws. Rookie guard Danielle Boiago (Hamilton) contributed offensively with 15 points while Liz Burns (Hamilton) had 12 points in the win.
For Waterloo, rookie guard
Erika Persson (Lund/) had a strong game with 13 points going 5-for-6 from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe. Spiropoulos had a career high 11 points and
Mackenzie Lougheed (Owen Sound) had 10 points in her 23 minutes of action.
The Warriors continue their home stand on Wednesday night when they welcome the Guelph Gryphons to the PAC at 6pm. The game can be seen live on the
Streaming Sports Network (SSN Canada).
