Box Score

In what was the final home game of the Waterloo women's basketball season, the Laurier Golden Hawks stole the show with a 27 point fourth quarter to soar over the Warriors 75-45 on Wednesday night at the PAC.

Colleen Quinlan (Hamilton/Warriors) was honoured prior to the game as the only graduating senior in an emotional ceremony for the third year guard.  During an injury filled career, Quinlan re-invented herself as a deadly shooter through hours and hours in the gym working out.  She finished her varsity career with 111 rebounds, 33 steals 251 points and 5.8 points per games.  Her teammates and coaches are going to miss her passion and undeniable love for the game.

Quinlan has also made a great impact off the court, volunteering for countless charitable causes, including the UW Well-Fit conditioning program for recovering cancer patients and the Team-Up program which mentors elementary school students.

The game opened up with a 12-2 run by the Laurier Golden Hawks as Laura Doyle (Guelph) knocked down three of her five three-pointers in the game.  Doyle finished the game with 17 points, going 5-for-7 from outside.

A Warrior timeout would ignite the home side as Waterloo would score 11 unanswered points to take a 13-12 lead into the second quarter.

Doyle would continue her attack with outside shooting while teammate Courtney Bruce (Orillia) would also begin to heat up.  Bruce had 12 points in the game going 3-for-10 from the field while hitting 3-of-8 from beyond the arc.  In total the Hawks hit 11 three-points in the game on just 23 attempts.

Down 31-22 at the start of the second half the Warriors looked poised to mount a comeback with Marti Killeen (Oakville/) leading the charge.  Killeen started to find her range and take the ball to the net but her efforts weren't enough as Laurier showed off their high tempo style to outscore the Warriors 44-23 in the second half en route to the 75-45 victory.

Christa Mancino (Port Colborne) led all scorers with 19 points in the game while adding 10 rebounds.

Killeen was the top point getter for Waterloo with 12 points on the night while athlete of the week Kate Kuntze (Stratford/) contributed with nine and Laura Burnett (Heidelberg/) had eight.

Laurier improved to 13-8 on the season with the win while Waterloo dropped to 1-20.

The Warriors conclude their season on Saturday at Brock with tip-off set for 1pm.
