Women's basketball fall to Mustangs in see-saw affair

Box Score The Warriors lost a see-saw battle to the Western Mustangs by a score of 75-64 on Saturday afternoon at the PAC.  Waterloo held a lead in all four quarters but the Mustangs pulled away late in the game to move to .500 on the season with a 10-10 record.  Waterloo fell to 1-19.

The final score was not justified for the Warriors who put forth a determined effort to earn their second win of the season.  As of late Waterloo has shown improvement with their young players contuning to show more confidence.

The opening quarter saw the Warriors outscore the Mustangs 17-14 with four of their nine three-pointer's coming in the first.  Cheryll Paranaque (Winnipeg/) hit back to back three's before Marti Killeen (Oakville/) hit one of her own to put Waterloo on a 9-0 run.

Western responded in the second as the Warriors had no answer for Laura Dally (Bright's Grove, Ont.) who scored a game high 21 points and the Mustangs went on a 12-4 run to hold a 35-27 lead at half.

The see-saw affair continued in the third quarter as Waterloo would go on a 10-2 run thanks to sharp shooting by Laura Burnett (Heidelberg/) and Laura Bossers (Stratford/) and great presence in the paint by Kate Kuntze (Stratford/).  Waterloo would outscore Western 20-16 in the third and find themselves down by only four.

In the fourth, Dally would continue her attack on the Warriors while teammates Jenny Vaughan (Dundas, Ont.) and Katelyn Leddy (London, Ont.) contributed offensively with 17 and 15 points respectively as the Mustangs pulled away late in the game to claim the 75-64 win over Waterloo.

For the Warriors, Kuntze had her strongest game of the year with 11 points while adding a game high 15 rebounds.  Burnett added nine points while Bossers had eight in the loss.

The Warriors play their final home game of the year on Wednesday as they welcome cross-town rivals, Laurier Golden Hawks to the PAC for a 6pm start.
