Late surge gives Rams victory over Warriors

Erika Persson had 15 points in Waterloo's 67-57 loss to the Rams
Box Score The Waterloo women's basketball team put together a tremendous effort in their home opening game but fell short in the end as the Ryerson Rams took the game 67-57.  The win was the Rams' first of the season while Waterloo dropped to 0-2.

The two teams were deadlocked at 57-all with just over two minutes remaining before the Rams scored 10-unanswered to cruise to the 10 point victory.

The visiting Rams shot 41% in the game compared to Waterloo's 39% but the ultimate difference was the Rams ability to finish in the paint and their effort on the boards with 38 in the game.

Ryerson was led by rookie guard Cassandra Nofuente (Toronto) 16 points in her 37 minutes of play.  Nofuente went 5-for-9 from the field while adding five more from the charity stripe.

Annie Sokoloff (North Vancouver) was also a scoring threat for the Rams with 15 points and a game high nine rebounds while Kelsey Wright (Brampton) added 11 of her own.

For the Warriors, Marti Killeen (Oakville/) put together a strong game with a total of 16 points.  Killeen was an impressive 7-for-11 from the field while adding two three pointers.

First year guard Erika Persson (Lund/) made an impressive debut at the Physical Activity Complex (PAC) with 15 points, including five three pointers and seven rebounds.  Kate Kuntze (Stratford/) continued her strong start to the 2012-13 season with 11 points in a losing effort.

The Warriors return to action again tomorrow night at the PAC against the Toronto Varsity Blues at 6pm.  You can catch the game live on SSN Canada.
