Warriors drop final game of season to remain winless

The Waterloo Warriors dropped their final game of the season by a score of 80-39 to the McMaster Marauders on Saturday afternoon in Hamilton.  The Marauders led from start to finish to win their sixth game of the season.  The Warriors finished the season winless with a 0-22 record.

Alyska Lukan (Barrie, Ont.) had a game-high 19 points in the win.

McMaster took an early lead in the first five minutes of the quarter, 10-5, and continually dominated in the paint. By the end of the first the Marauders were up an astounding 22-8.

In the second, the Warriors found a scoring touch as they scored 14 points but McMaster was relentless as they scored another 21. The score going into halftime was 43-22. 

The 21 point lead continued to grow as McMaster's defence combined with their stellar offence allowed the gap to grow to 30 points. Elizabeth Burns (Hamilton, Ont.) scored 17 points for the Marauders. In the fourth, the Warriors scored a measly four points to McMaster's 20 and the game would end with a 40+ point spread. 

Joining Lukan and Burns on the high scoring list was forward Taylor Chiarot (Hamilton, Ont.) with 13 points and eight rebounds. Point guard Vanessa Bonomo (Dundas, Ont.) scored another 12 for the Marauders and Jaklynn Nimec (Binbrook, Ont.) grabbed nine rebounds in the win.

Saraya Hickey (Tsawwassen, B.C.) was the leading scorer for the Warriors with nine points, going 4-for-10 from the field.  Sabrina Brathwaite (Brampton, Ont.) picked up 11 rebounds on the afternoon.

The OUA playoffs get under way on Wednesday, February 23.
