Gaels hand Warriors 83-52 loss

Laura Bossers drives the net as part of Think Pink fill the gym on Saturday night
Box Score After a convincing win over the RMC Paladins on Friday night, the Warriors went cold in the first half in a 83-52 loss to the Queen's Gaels on Saturday night at the PAC gym.  The Gaels outscored the Warriors 51-24 in the first half, cruising to their third win of the season.

Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont. put up 24 points to lead the Gaels to victory while Madison Behr (Ancaster) was the top point getter on the Warriors side with nine points including going 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.

The Gaels started the game hot on both ends of the floor, putting up 27 and 24 points in the first and second quarters respectively. The Warriors could not find their way to the basket against the staunch Queen's defense throughout the first half.

In the second half, Waterloo battled back but the Gaels were able to hold the Warriors to under 30 points. The Gaels increased their lead further to clinch the win by a 31 point margin.

The Gaels strong performance was due much in part to second chance opportunities and a strong presence in the paint. They dominated the glass, outrebounding the Warriors 44-26. The Gaels shot well with a team field goal percentage of 46 while hitting 42 percent of their shots from beyond the arc.

Moore led all scorers with 24 points shooting 71 percent from the floor. Lisa Minutillo of Brantford, Ont. chipped in 12 points and Christine Wallace of North Gower, Ont. picked up eight rebounds.

Laura Bossers (Stratford/) chipped in for the Warriors with eight points while rookie Cheryll Paranaque (Winnipeg/) added eight of her own.  Second year forward Kate Kuntze (Stratford/) had six rebounds in the loss.

The 1-3 Warriors return to action next weekend with a pair of home games as they welcome the York Lions and Laurentian Voyageurs to the PAC gym on Friday and Saturday.  Both games are set for 6pm and can be seen live on the Streaming Sports Network (SSN Canada).

Note: Eight different women's basketball players and two women's hockey players cut eight inches of their hair to donate to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program during halftime of the men's game.  This program "encourages women and men to grow, cut, and donate their hair to make real hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments."

Between the women's basketball and hockey teams, they have raised over $10,000 towards the Waterloo's Think Pink Campaign in which all proceeds will be donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation - Ontario Chapter.
