Hickey puts up 20 points in loss to Gryphons

The Warriors had their best overall game of the season losing by 10 to the gritty Guelph Gryphons on Saturday afternoon at the PAC gym in Waterloo.  Saraya Hickey (Tsawwassen, B.C.) led all scorers putting up a season high 20 points in the loss.

The young Warrior squad stuck with the Gryphons for the first half as the teams went into the locker room tied at 33.

A big third quarter was the difference as the Gryphons outscored the Warriors 26-10 and did not look back en route to their eighth win of the season.  Guelph now sits in sixth place with an 8-6 record while Waterloo fell to 0-14.

Leading the way for Guelph was a pair of guards, Marlee Freeman (Orillia, Ont.) and Kara Muhlhausen (Belleville, Ont.) each with 13 points.  Freeman was 6-for-9 from the field while Muhlhausen was 3-for-6 and 7 of 12 from the charity stripe.

For the Warriors, Hickey caught fire late in the game scoring seven straight points to give her 20 on the afternoon.  She shot a sizzling 8-for-14 from the field and hit two three pointer's in the process.  Providing secondary scoring was Erin Tilley (Oakville, Ont.) and Tori Lee (Grimsby, Ont.) who each scored 11 points.

Next up is a home date with the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday, January 26.
