Friday, November 12 vs. Ottawa
Ottawa 64, Waterloo 38

The Warriors fell to the Ottawa Gee-Gees 64-38 on Friday night in the opening event of the Think Pink weekend at the University of Waterloo.

Waterloo jumped out of the gate with lots of jump and energy as they showed their ability to match any team's speed in the league.  Their full court press was working to perfection as Waterloo found themselves down by only seven after the first quarter.

Waterloo's offense would let them down in the second quarter scoring only four points and putting them in a big hole heading into the second half down 33-15.

Ottawa continued their offensive pressure and strong defense in the second half, once again keeping Waterloo to only four points in the third quarter and eventually running away with the game.

Erin Tilley (Oakville/Warriors) led the way for the Warriors with eight points as she was 6 for 8 from the line and gathered in six rebounds.   Sabrina Brathwaite (Brampton/Warriors) was second in team scoring putting up seven points on the evening.

Fourth year centre Hannah Sunley-Paisley (Toronto, Ont.) was dominant for the Gee-Gees leading all scorers with 24 points going 10 for 17 from the field and 4 for 6 from the line.  Sunley-Paisley also picked up 10 rebounds.

Waterloo takes on Carleton tomorrow evening at 6:00 pm.

Saturday, November 13 vs. Carleton
Carleton 59, Waterloo 42

The winless Waterloo Warriors gave the no. 7 Carleton Ravens a run for their money on Saturday evening in Waterloo losing the game by a closer margin than many expected by a score of 59-42.

Carleton showed why they are one of the top teams in the country jumping out to a 20-8 first quarter lead as Ashleigh Cleary (Kemptville, Ont.) and her Ravens were too much for Waterloo to handle.

Carleton continued their dominance in the second quarter outscoring Waterloo 18-4 and held a 38-12 lead heading into halftime.

Waterloo showed their inner fight and bounced back in the third quarter outscoring the Ravens 17-7 to cut into their lead.  The Warriors outworked their skilled opponents and drove the lane resulting in many trips to line.

Down 45-29 heading into the last quarter, the Warriors once again matched the Ravens basket for basket and showed that they can compete with a top team in Carleton if they continue to outwork their opponent.

Meghan Martyna (St. Albert/Augustana) and Erin Tilley (Oakville/Warriors) led the way for Waterloo with eight points each.  Martyna went 3 of 4 from the field while Tilley was a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line.  Tilley also added 8 rebounds on the afternoon while Sabrina Brathwaite (Brampton/Warriors) led the team with 11.

Cleary led all scorers with 17 points going 8 for 14 from the line and added four rebounds.  Darcy Hawkins (Merrickville, Ont.) of the Ravens picked up eight rebounds on the night while adding eight points of her own.

Despite losing the game, the Warriors can claim their fourth game of the season as a moral victory over a very challenging Carleton opponent.  Waterloo went stride for stride with the Ravens after sorting out a disappointing opening half.  The Warriors hope to continue this momentum into next weekend as they face the York Lions and Laurentian Voyageurs on the road.
