JOB DESCRIPTION

The UWaterloo Strength and Conditioning Student Coach Program is designed for the student who is aiming to acquire practical experience in the field of high performance strength and conditioning to complement their academic course load. Upon completion of this program, students would have acquired the skills, experience and confidence needed to be an effective strength and conditioning coach with high performance athletes. Below is an overview of the expected outcomes of a full program experience (3-4 years):

Year 1
  •   Participate in UWaterloo High Performance Orientation Program
  •   Shadow Lead Strength Coach and Upper Year Student Strength and Conditioning Coaches
  •   Progressively have a more hands on role in running warm ups and restorative protocols during varsity training times
  •   Help run varsity combine events
  •   Attend UW High Performance meetings (biweekly)
  •   End of term exit meeting
  •   Time Commitment (4 hours per week; flexible schedule available)
Year 2
  •   Assist in running the UW High Performance Orientation Program
  •   Actively coach during varsity training times
  •   Assist in the development of incoming student strength and conditioning coaches
  •   Assist in planning and coordination of varsity combine events
  •   Sit in on programming meetings
  •   Attend UW High Performance meetings (biweekly)
  •   Time Commitment (6 hours per week; 72 hours per term); schedule is flexible based on academic/work scheduleY
Year 3/4
  •   Assist in running the UWaterloo Student Development Series
  •   May be assigned to a Tier I or II Varsity Team to act as TEAM STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH; directly assist in teams programming and program implementation (may include attending home/away games, practices, etc.)
  •   Actively coach during varsity training times
  •   Assist in the day to day development of incoming student strength and conditioning coaches
  •   Schedule CSCS exam (must graduate before you can write exam)
  •   Run at least 1 combine event during calendar year
  •   Contribute 4 blog/video posts during the year
  •   Regularly attend meetings with varsity head coaches.
  •   Go through mock interview with either the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach AND/OR Varsity Head coach
