The Warriors women's rugby team picked up an impressive 25-12 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks in their season and home opener on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks and Warriors have always had close battles and this year was no different as the two went toe-to-toe.
Laurier opened the scoring just a few minutes into the contest and successfully hit the convert to take a 7-0 lead. The Warriors would respond five minutes later as
Melanie Fraser (Newmarket/) marched in Waterloo's first try of the season.
Down 7-5,
Juliana Bossom (Ottawa/)Â and
Nicole Motyka (Dundalk/) punched in back to back tires and the Warriors did not look back the rest of the way.
Jocelyn Lim (Toronto/) added another try while
Philippa Reid (Halifax/) knocked through one convert and a penalty goal to secure the 25-12 win for the Warriors.
The Warriors will look for their first 2-0 start to the season since 2012 when they face the York Lions on Saturday, Septemeber 10 at 1pm in Toronto.
