The University of Waterloo is seeking a highly-motivated and organized individual to serve as the head coach of its Figure Skating team for the 2021-2022 season. Under the direction of the Associate Director, Athletics, the Manager of Interuniversity Sport, and the Coordinator of Sports Clubs, the head coach is responsible for the continuous development of the varsity figure skating program through coaching, recruiting, and administration.

These responsibilities will be fulfilled through coordination, planning, evaluation, and implementation of a yearly training program, as well as recruiting highly qualified OUA caliber student-athletes. Additional responsibilities include team selection, personnel management (assistant coaches), proper training techniques, individualized training schedules within a yearly program plan, and with priority placed on academic success, the overall student-athlete experience and other duties as assigned by the department. The incumbent must also act in accordance with documented policy and procedure guidelines and adhere to the University of Waterloo, and OUA policies and procedures.

The coach will work cooperatively with the University of Waterloo athletic department staff with regards to admissions, event scheduling, facility issues, travel planning, budgeting, peer mentorship, academic support, purchasing of equipment and apparel, strength & conditioning, athletic therapy, advancement and completing administrative requirements.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be a friendly, results oriented person with an ability to engage with student staff, alumni, and volunteers.

Minimum requirements include a university degree (preferred), current coaching accreditation (appropriate NCCP certification; Skate Canada Technical Specialist certification is considered an asset) and successful coaching experience. Superior interpersonal, organizational, leadership, coaching, and technical skills are required.
The Figure Skating season begins with training camp in September and finishes with OUA championships in February.  Practices occur on campus and student-athletes train throughout the calendar year. Non-traditional hours required on evenings & weekends. Additionally, the successful candidate will require a vulnerable sector check.
