Warriors bring home medals from OUA Rowing Championship

The University of Waterloo Rowing Club (UWRC) had a great time participating at the OUA Championships this past weekend, which wraps up the season for most of our athletes! Our novice athletes had the chance to participate in the Faux OUAs generously hosted by Western on the Friday for novice and JV athletes. Both our men's and women's 4+ novice crews finished the season on a high note by placing third in their respective categories! It was awesome that they got one more race in and they are all looking forward to racing with our team again next summer and fall!

Our varsity athletes participated in the official OUAs on the Saturday. They had a great time racing, despite the chilly weather, and they left it all on the water during their races. There was steep competition in both the women's and men's 1x events we entered crews in, but they gave it their all and ended up placing 3rd and 4th in their respective B Finals. We even had two of our boats qualify for the A final, the lwt M2x and lwt M2-, with the M2x bringing home some hardware when they placed third overall at OUAs!! This is the first time a crew from the UWRC has medalled at OUAs and it has left the team super excited about the potential it represents for future terms. It was great for so many of our crews to end their season on such a high note and it has left them hungry to put in the work during our winter training season that starts mid November.

For three of our boats, OUAs isn't quite the end of the season though. They will be competing this upcoming weekend at the Canadian University Rowing Championships (CURCs) hosted in Welland. Here they will get to put themselves to the test against the top university crews across Canada! This is the first time in the University of Waterloo's history that any student has ever represented the university at CURCs, which makes it an exciting milestone for the team. Those crews have been putting in the extra work this week to prepare themselves and we can't wait to see the results this weekend!
