All Good in Algoma! Warriors sweep T-Birds to wrap up 2021

The Warriors women's basketball team wrapped up their 2021 schedule in a big way with two weekend wins over the Algoma Thunderbirds in Sault Ste. Marie. With the victories, Waterloo moved back to .500 on the season, heading into the holiday break at 3-3.

On Friday evening, Waterloo defeated the T-Birds 68-48 with three Warriors hitting double digits in points led by Beth Howlett (Burlington, ON/) with 16 while Maddy Adams (Drumbo, ON/) and Vanessa Hughes (Hamilton, ON/) put up 16 and 14 respectively. Hughes also led the way on the boards with nine rebounds while Megan Goar (Waterloo, ON/) and Adams each collected eight boards. Waterloo had a solid night at the charity stripe going 8-for-9 from the line.

On Saturday, Waterloo again put the pedal down early and often cruising to a 63-29 win over the T-Birds. It was a complete team effort on the scoresheet as each Warrior in action earned a least one basket. Goar led the way with 13 points and six rebounds while Mackenzie Obermayer (Hanover, ON/) and Karen Hasebenebi each put up eight. Obermayer was clutch on the boards as well collecting four offensive rebounds and seven defensive for 11 on the night.

The Warriors will enjoy some time off now before a pair of exhibition games (Dec. 31 at Toronto, January 7 at York) to keep sharp before the OUA regular season restart in the New Year.
