Women's basketball wrapped up the 2019 portion of their schedule with a win and loss to the Algoma Thunderbirds this weekend at the PAC.
On Friday it was Think Pink night with many fans and supporters in attendance helping fight an important cause as the Warriors raise money and awareness for the Canadian Cancer Society.
On the court, the Warriors put together a spirited effort with four Warriors hitting double digits in a 65-59 win over the T-Birds.
Aphia Ward (Beaumont, AB/) led the way with 15 points, going 5-for-15 from the field and 3-for-4 from the line. She also led the way on the glass with seven rebounds. Syndey Wilson had a strong game as well putting up 13 points and added five rebounds.
Breanna Hudspeth (Burlington/) and
Vanessa Hughes (Hamilton/) were the other two Warriors in double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Beth Howlett (Burlington/) rounded out Waterloo's attack with eight points and four assists.
Defensively, Waterloo had six steals and added eight blocks with Hudspeth leading the way with her one steal and two blocks.
On Saturday, Algoma outscored Waterloo 39-22 in the second half to earn a 70-58 win over the black and gold.
Hughes had another strong contest with 19 points while Ward put up 11.
The Warriors head into the break with a 2-9 record and will look to make up some ground in the New Year with a Battle of Waterloo to kick things off on Wed, January 8.
