Field Hockey picks up single point in weekend action

The Warriors field hockey team had a busy weekend with three games in two days coming away with one tie and two hard fought losses.

On Saturday, Waterloo tied the Western Mustangs 1-1 but deserved a much better fate, dominating the play from start to finish. Second year Miranda Hunter (Mississauga/) scored Waterloo's goal on a gritty effort but the Mustangs tied it up late to make it a 1-all draw.

On Sunday, the black and gold was up against two of the toughest teams in the OUA, York (last year's OUA gold medalists) and Toronto.

In their York match, Waterloo got down by two early but responded with two of their own off of short corners before the first half was up. Jennifer Mead (Mitchell/) found the back of the net on both occasions.

York again found the net with two more in the second half including one off a stroke after a solid defensive effort from Larissa McLeod (Cambridge/). With their two second half goals, York would take the match by a score of 4-2.

In their second match on Sunday, Toronto took an early 3-0 lead but Waterloo responded as Mead put home her third goal of the day to make it 3-1 into the half. The Varsity Blues kept the pedal down in the second half, notching three more to make the final 6-1 in their favour.

Waterloo will enjoy a week and half off before returning to action on Thursday, October 4 against the Western Mustangs on Warrior Field. Match time is set for 8pm under the lights.
