Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Warriors give No. 6 Marauders stiff test in road loss

Coming off a big win over Brock on Saturday, the women's basketball team kept up their strong defensive play against the No. 6 team in the county, McMaster Marauders on Wednesday night in Hamilton.

The Warriors stuck with the home side but gave up 25 fourth quarter points to drop the contest 69-46.

Prior to the fourth quarter, Waterloo held McMaster to just 14 points in the opening two quarters and 16 in the third.

Leading the way for the Warriors was Aphia Ward (Beaumont/) who had nine points on three 3-balls while Sydney Wilson (Guelph/) put up seven points, three assists and one block. Ella Mahler (Hamilton/) provided six points off the bench while Afifa Salad (Cambridge/) had five.

Defensively Ann Stewart (Yellowknife/) was strong with two steals while Ward and Julia Pavlik (Waterloo/) each had one.

McMaster was led by Hilary Hanaka who had 14 points while Sarah Gates put up 12 off the bench.

Waterloo will be back in action on Friday night at the PAC for their Seniors Game as they host the Guelph Gryphons. Caitlin MacLeod (Mississauga/) and Julia Pavlik (Waterloo/) will be honoured for their years of dedication to the women's basketball program.
