Women's basketball battled a pair of tough teams on the weekend, coming up short on both occasions but showed good signs of development.
On Friday, Waterloo fell to the 5-2 York Lions by a score of 68-45. The Warriors came out of the gate slow scoring just 16 in the opening half while York put up 38. Waterloo showed up with a much better compete level in the second half and matched the Lions basket for basket. Unfortunately the uphill climb was too much for the black and gold in the 23 point loss.
Aphia Ward (Beaumont/) was Waterloo's top scorer with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Breanna Hudspeth (Burlington/) had a nice night on the glass with eight boards and chipped in with six points.
On Saturday, the 6-1 Queen's Gaels outscored the Warriors 22-13 in the opening half on route to a 76-52 victory. Waterloo shot 31.7% from the field compared to 41.4% for the Gaels.
Three Warriors hit double figures with Hudspeth leading the way with 11 points while
Beth Howlett (Burlington) and
Kaitlyn Overeem (Brantford/) each had 10.
Meghan Sharp (Kitchener/) led the way on the boards with six rebounds.Â
Waterloo closes out the 2018 portion of their schedule this weekend with a pair of home games. First they take on Nipissing on Friday followed by Laurentian on Saturday. Both tip-offs are slated for 6pm.Â
