The Warriors field hockey team competed in their final weekend of the regular season before the OUA Championship gets underway this coming weekend at Warrior Field. The black and gold went 1-1-1 in games with McGill, Queen's and York, finding their stride at the right time.
Waterloo 4, McGill 0
The Warriors played a complete 70 minutes to earn a big 4-0 win over the McGill Martlets. Four different Warriors found the scoresheet including
Miranda Hunter (Mississauga/),
Jennifer Mead (Mitchell/),
Nicole Mastantuono (Oakville/) and
Larissa McLeod (Cambridge/). Waterloo tallied one goal in the opening half and three more in the second for the victory. Rookie keeper
Marley Dowling (Waterloo/) and
Reagan McKinney (Edmonton/) shared the duties in the net for the shutout.
Waterloo 0, Queen's 0
The Warriors shutdown a very fast and dynamic Queen's Gaels' team in their second game on Saturday. Waterloo had several chances down the stretch, including three short corners but were unable to find the back of the net. Dowling earned her second shutout of the day.Â
York 2, Waterloo 1
The York Lions found the net two minutes into the contest but Waterloo was able to settle the game down and generate several quality chances in the York end. Fleur Diepstraten was able to convert a short corner in the 15th minute to send the game into half tied at one. The second half was again back and forth before Jaslan Stirling put one home for her Lions side late in the match to give her team the 2-1 win. Waterloo showed they can compete with a top team from the OUA and are peaking at the right time.Â
The Warriors host the OUA Championship this weekend at Warrior Field. Full schedule will be available at oua.ca.
