Warriors take bite out of Badgers on Alumni Day

Women's rugby dominated the Brock Badgers on Sunday afternoon, scoring early and often on route to a 51-0 victory to kick-start their season. Erika Schroeder (New Dundee/) had a strong game for the Warriors scoring 3 tries while Megan Colwell (Spencerville/) added three converts and one penalty goal in the lob-sided victory. Warriors move to 1-0 on the season alongside former players, coaches, and colleagues.

Waterloo maintained possession through much of the game and received lots of offensive outbursts along the way. Schroeder scored the first of her three trys early in the game to take a 5-0 lead. Shortly after, Jessica Delaney (Stratford/) would make a powerful run through the Badgers defence before scoring a try of her own, extending the lead to 10-0. Megan Colwell (Spencerville/) would add a penalty goal to go into the break with the Warriors leading 13-0.

The Warriors would pick up where they left off in the second half, with Schroeder scoring her second try after a brilliant run by Rachel Brown (Cambridge/). The score would be extended to 20-0 after the convert. The Warriors would continue to hold strong as a team and add five more tries courtesy of Jessie Brush (Kitchener/), Linda Fan (Oakville/), Schroeder, Danielle Duncan (Waterloo/) and Emily Sanderson (New Hamburg/).

The Warriors would emerge victorious by a score of 51-0 and send a strong message to future opponents. Strong defence and relentless offence was too strong to handle for the visiting Badgers who fall to 0-1 on the season.

The Warriors will travel to York next Friday and defend their undefeated season. The Warriors next home game is on Sunday, September 28th against Western.
