Warriors fall to Marauders in muddy OUA bronze medal match

The McMaster Marauders claimed the OUA bronze medal on Saturday afternoon after defeating the Warriors 26-8 on a miserable Saturday afternoon at the CIF fields.

In what was essentially a mud bowl between the two combatants, McMaster controlled most of the offensive pressure while Waterloo did all they could to stop the onslaught.

Waterloo got on the board first on a penalty goal by Nastasha Vrablic (Cambridge/) to take a 3-0 lead but the Marauders responded shortly thereafter to take a 7-3 lead on a try by Claire Lockhart (Waterloo) and successful convert by Christine Van Beest (Wasaga Beach).

McMaster would pad their lead early in the second half on a try by Hannah Braithwaite (Kingston) but Waterloo would keep things close as OUA all-star Briana Cunningham (Waterloo/) drove home Waterloo's only try of the game.

With the Warriors within striking distance down 14-8, McMaster would put the game away scoring an unanswered 12 points to walk away with the 26-8 bronze medal victory.

Scoring the final points for the Marauders was Sarah Berry (East York) and Braithwaite who added who second try of the game while Van Beest added another two converts.
