Warriors double up Badgers

The Warriors defeated the Brock Badgers 22-11 as part of homecoming events in Waterloo Saturday afternoon.  The Warriors scored early in often in the first half taking control of the game.

Anna Kirkey (Waterloo, Ont.) a 5'4 prop scored the opening try and veteran Abbey Gingerich (Waterloo, Ont.) made the conversion to put the Warriors up by seven.  Fullback Caitlin Martin (Teeswater, Ont.) took control from there with a beautifully placed kick up field to give rookie winger Valerie Bigelow (Thornhill, Ont.) her first second try of the year to put the Warriors up by 12.  Martin would add her second try of the season late in the first half to put the Warriors ahead by 17 heading into the second half.

Early in the second, Erinne Lee Vargas (Kitchener, Ont.) came off the bench to score her first try of the season to give the Warriors a comfortable 22 point lead.  The Badgers came to life following Vargas's try biting back and putting life back into the Brock squad.

Following two penalty conversions by 8-man Misha Maric (Scarborough, Ont.) and a well executed try by Erica Hutchison (St. Pauls Station, Ont.) the Badgers found themselves right back in the contest taking advantage of the Warrior squad who sat back too early.  Fortunately for the Warriors, the comeback would fall short as the black and gold maintained their composure and doubled up the Badgers 22-11.

In week four action, the Warriors (2-1-0) travel to Toronto (1-1-1) for their crossover match to face the Varsity Blues in a Friday evening match up under the lights.  The Badgers (1-2-0) host the Western Mustangs (1-2-0) on Saturday who were humbled by Guelph 84-0 in week three.
