Warriors win battle of Waterloo; host Brock in quarter-finals

The Warriors completed their regular season with a convincing 49-0 win over Laurier on Friday afternoon.  The win secured Waterloo second place in the Shiels division and home field advantage for the first round of playoffs as they host the Brock Badgers.

Rookie Warriors were given the chance to play and gave the coaches something to get excited about for the future of women's rugby at Waterloo.

“We are thrilled with the development of our first year players and there were too many stand-out players in this game to name them all. It's a definite positive that selections seem to get more difficult with each game,” mentioned coaches Jay and Leslie Shaw.

The Warriors were able to score early and often giving the black and gold strong momentum heading into the post season.  Leading the way for the Warriors was fifth year fullback Caitlin Martin (Teeswater, Ont.) with two tries and fourth year flanker Kaley Maksymyk (Cambridge, Ont.) with two of her won.  Adding singles was Kristen McAlpine (Markham, Ont.), Erika Schroeder (New Dundee, Ont.), Renee Woodhouse (Stratford, Ont.), Valerie Bigelow (Thornhill, Ont.) and Bryanna Bryans (Chatsworth, Ont.).  Laura Code (Kitchener, Ont.) and Megan Colwell (Spencerville, Ont.) each added a convert to round out the scoring.

The team gets back to work on Tuesday following a couple days off to prepare for Brock in their quarter-final match up on Saturday, October 16 at 1:00 pm.  Waterloo beat Brock 22-11 in the regular season and is never a team that can be taken lightly.
