Football Team Equipment Manager

The University of Waterloo Department of Athletics and Recreation is seeking highly motivated and organized individual to serve as Varsity Football Team Equipment Manager for the 2022-2023 season.  Under the direction of the Football Head Coach and Department Equipment Coordinator, the Football Equipment Manager is responsible for practice coverage, Game Day equipment preparation, Game Day coverage, and Game Day clean up.

These responsibilities will be, but not limited to, the following:

Practice Coverage
  • Be available before practice to assist with equipment related questions and/or issues
    • Minor equipment repairs, jersey/pant switches, etc.
  • Be on field to
    •  Deal with equipment questions as they arise
    • Assist with on field equipment set up and take down
    • Report any equipment issues to Equipment Coordinator
  • Assist with post practice clean up on field and in the locker room
Game Day Preparation
  • The day before the game, assist with locker room set up
    • Helmet preparation – making sure helmets have proper decals and masks for upcoming game
    • Hand out uniforms
    • Hand out gear bags for road games
  • Make sure extra equipment is ready for travel and/or sideline
Game Day Coverage
  • Attend all home and away games
    • Some travel may be required the day before a game
  • Make sure equipment is loaded and unloaded from the bus
  • Be available pregame to assist with equipment related matters as they arise
  • Sideline preparation pregame and clean up post game
  • Assist with game day clean up
    • Collection of uniforms
    • Assist with laundry
    • Reporting of damage to Equipment Coordinator
Requirements

The ideal candidate will be an outgoing, results oriented person with an ability to engage with student-athletes, staff, and volunteers. No previous experience is required, however, is considered an asset. Training will be provided.

The Football season begins in the middle of August for training camp and can run until the end of November if the team reaches the Vanier Cup Championship game. Off season practices occur on campus during the winter term, 2-3 days a week, with a Spring Camp and Summer Minicamp also occurring throughout the year. Non-typical hours required on evenings & weekends. Additionally, the successful candidate will require a vulnerable sector check.
