Job Description

This position will be responsible for managing the University of Waterloo’s esports teams’ broadcasts on platforms such as Twitch and Youtube. It will be the broadcast coordinator’s responsibility to ensure the viewing experience of the University of Waterloo esports teams run smoothly through activities such as: setting up appropriate overlays, balancing audio channels, moderating chat, updating scoreboards, and switching scenes.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities of Position:

  • The Broadcast Coordinator must prepare overlays for each game’s stream to best reflect the needs for each game
  • The Broadcast Coordinator must be present for every stream with exceptions given to informed illness or personal matters that must be attended to
  • It’s the responsibility of the Broadcast Coordinator to moderate the chat for the livestreams, including deleting or banning any controversial posts that may appear
  • The Broadcast Coordinator must properly balance the audio channels for the commentators and game audio
  • The Broadcast Coordinator must set up all of the video and audio aspects of the stream before it is expected to take place
  • The Broadcast Coordinator must update the scores for each game and change the overlays accordingly when necessary in game
  • The Broadcast Coordinator must respond to technical issues as raised by the esports staff and/or viewers in a reasonable time
  • If the Broadcast Coordinator notices any cool or exciting clips during gameplay, they are asked to clip it and send it to the Esports Communications Student Coordinator

Qualifications:

  • Experience with broadcast production / stream running (bonus points if you have your own stream with a broadcast schedule.)
  • Experience with creating assets for streams such as scene transitions, overlays, dashboard pages, etc.
  • Creative thinker
  • Detail oriented
  • Passionate about esports
  • Adequate stream setup 
  • In good academic standing

Times and Hours of Work 

  • Employment shall commence on 10/26/2020 up to and including 12/20/2020. This is subject to change with advanced notice
  • For the period of your employment as specified above the hours are as follows, with additional expectations as denoted:
    • Wednesday – Thursday
    • 5:30PM - 10:00PM 
      • Depending on the date that the scheduled game is played, it will either start at 6PM or 8PM. The game will last for a maximum of two hours with approximately 30 minutes being given beforehand to set up the stream. The employee is expected to review the broadcast schedule ahead of time and ensure there are no personal conflicts during that period
      • The incumbent is expected to have the stream completely set-up by the match’s scheduled start time at either 6PM or 8PM
      • Those hired for this position will be paid for 2.5 hours per stream, it is the responsibility of the employee to ensure they do need exceed or fall short of these hours
