Job Description:

This position involves commentating over the University of Waterloo esports games. It is the shoutcasterā€™s job to both entertain and inform the viewer of the play-by-play actions of the game they are watching. The shoutcaster is required to commentate over every single match for the game that they are selected for. The shoutcaster in their application is able to select which of the following titles they are applying for: League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League.

Ā Summary of Duties and Responsibilities of Position

  • Must shoutcast every assigned game with exceptions given to informed illness or personal matters that must be attended to
  • The shoutcaster must be a passionate individual who is able to constantly convey the play by play actions of each match to the audience in a way that is understandable to both veteran players and new players
  • The caster must keep a positive image and refrain from showing bias during a match
  • The caster must refrain from using inappropriate language during a broadcast

Ā Qualifications:

  • Have shoutcasted/commentated for at least one esports event in the past
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge for the game the shoutcaster is applying for
  • Passionate and energetic individual with exceptional presentation skills
  • Effective communicator
  • Owning a high-quality microphone and camera is considered an asset
  • Studying in Speech Communications is an asset
  • In good academic standing

  • A cover letter detailing previous experience with shoutcasting/commentating as well as which title you are applying for
  • Additionally any sound or video clips of past performances are not a requirement, but are an asset

Times and Hours of Work

  • Employment shall commence on 10/26/2020 up to and including 12/20/2020. This is subject to change with advanced notice
  • For the period of your employment as specified above the hours are as follows, with additional expectations as denoted:
    • Wednesday ā€“ Thursday
    • 6:00PM - 10:00PMĀ 
      • Depending on the date that the scheduled game is played, it will either start at 6PM or 8PM. The game will last for a maximum of two hours. The employee is expected to review the broadcast schedule ahead of time and ensure there are no personal conflicts during that periodĀ 
      • Those hired for this position will be paid for 2 hours per match, each sport will have a broadcasted match approximately once every 3 weeks. It is the responsibility of the employee to ensure they do need exceed or fall short of these hours.
      • The shoutcaster is expected to appear at least 15 minutes before any match to go through audio setup and sound test

  • While employed by Athletics and Recreation, the behaviour of all staff members not only reflects upon the incumbent, it also reflects upon Athletics and Recreation, the University of Waterloo, and its sponsors. It is therefore expected that all Staff, act responsibly using good judgement, common sense and courtesy at all times. Professional ethic in the Athletics and Recreation workplace is a must!
  • Athletics and Recreation enforces strict confidentiality. Any Staff who breaches confidentiality is subject to immediate termination of employment.
  • All Athletics and Recreation Staff must comply with the guidelines and code as defined in the Athletics and Recreation policy manual. A violation of policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination of employment.

Salary
