Intramural Sport Official/Referee

 Rate of Pay:$16.55 - $23.95/hour
 Hours Per Week:3 – 10 hours with flexibility for more or less
 Number of Positions:40 - 70

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Coordinator, Recreational Sport or their designate, officials will be responsible for all aspects of the intramural games that they are assigned for. They will interact regularly with the student population, including other casual staff (intramurals, facilities) as well as other full-time student and permanent staff. Intramural Officials/Referees are expected to act as an ambassador for all Warrior Recreation programming both while working and throughout the entirety of the term.

This is a casual part-time 4-month contract working from September – December 2023. Primary shift responsibility will be evenings with expectation of weekend work. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arrive prepared and on time to all scheduled shifts
  • Call all Intramural contests with complete honesty and integrity
  • Always maintain an appropriate professional demeanor
  • Manage player and spectators on the field/court
  • Participate in official evaluations
  • Act as an ambassador for Warrior Recreation
  • Attend required training sessions and demonstrate proficiency in understanding of rules and officiating
  • Enforce established rules during intramural competitions
  • Enforce and evaluate sportsmanship of intramural teams and participants
  • Check in all participants and teams before each competition
  • Ensure proper use of all university equipment by program participants
  • Handle on site disputes involving player conflict and rule interpretation

Qualifications & Skills: 

  • Must be a Waterloo student
  • Working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport being applied for. (Required)
  • Willingness to continue to train and improve their officiating skills. (Required)
  • Refereeing experience and certification. (Preferred)
  • CPR/First Aid Certified. (Preferred)
