It was a night to remember for the women's basketball program on Wednesday night at the PAC as part of Senior Night. Not only was it one of the most impactful and memorable group of graduating seniors the program has seen in a long time but also the black and gold won their 8th straight game and in doing so clinched top spot in the OUA west standings. With their record breaking 17-4 record, Waterloo will now get a bye in the opening round of the OUA playoffs and will host the OUA quarter-finals on Saturday, February 25 at 8pm (opponent TBD).
In the game, Waterloo got out to a nice start leading the York Lions 20-13 after the opening 10 and they would not look back en route to a 71-60 victory over the visting Lions. Three of the seniors mentioned in the tweet above led the way for the Warriors all hitting double digits.
Vanessa Hughes (Hamilton, ON/) put up 14 while
Maddy Adams (Drumbo, ON/) had 12 and
Kaitlyn Overeem (Brantford, ON/) added 10.
Jaime Newell (Brussels, ON/) and
Beth Howlett (Burlington, ON/) each had nine while
Mackenzie Obermayer (Hanover, ON/) put up seven. On the glass, Newell led the way with 13 rebounds.
Waterloo will now ride their 8 game winning streak into Hamilton on Friday night hoping to take out McMaster to grab the third overall spot in the OUA standings. Tipoff is set for 6pm and the game can be seen live on OUA.tv.
