The men's and women's Squash teams continued their strong starts to the season with 6-1 victories over Brock and tightly contested defeats to Western. The men's team lost to the reigning champion Mustangs 5-2, with 2 key wins coming from
Vivek Kapur (Mississauga. ON/) at the #4 spot and
Raziq Kassam (Calgary, AB/) at the #6 spot. Second year
Ben Ng (Calgary, AB/) might have played the match of the year, losing his best of 5 matches, 15-13, in the fifth set to Western's Murdoch Morrison in the #3 spot.
On the women's side, our top 3,
Harriet Ho (Toronto, ON/),
Ananya Maheshwari (Windsor, ON/), and
Nitya Singh (New Delhi, India/), all won 3-0 comfortably against the Mustangs.
Alia Abdelghaffar (Cairo, Egypt/) had a tightly contested 3-2 defeat to Western's Sophie Pinfold that tilted the matchup in favour of the Mustangs. This was an encouraging result for us, nonetheless, as we were without 3 of our top 5 players, including our top 2. The Warriors focus is on taking advantage of the two-month in-season break to position ourselves for success at our final league tournament and the OUA championships in the new year.
Heading into the winter break, both Squash teams have a 5-2 record.
