The Warriors women's basketball team took part in their first OUA Playoff game since 2008 when they took on the McMaster Marauders at the PAC on Wednesday night and unfortunately ran into a hot shooting Marauders team that got past Waterloo by a score of 63-45. McMaster hit 12 three-pointers compared to just four for the Warriors which would be the difference in the contest.
The top scoring player in the OUA Sarah Gates returned from injury and was clutch for McMaster all night scoring a game high 23 points going 8-for-16 from the field including 3 made shots from beyond the arc. Gates was also a perfect 4-for-4 from the line.
As a team, McMaster shot 35.5% from the field while Waterloo operated at 24.3%.
Leading the Warriors on offence was
Maddy Adams (Drumbo, ON/) who had nine points and seven rebounds.
Beth Howlett (Burlington, ON/) and
Summer Pahl (Kitchener, ON/) each had eight points while
Kaitlyn Overeem (Brantford, ON/) and
Vanessa Hughes (Hamilton, ON/) both had seven.
Despite the loss, it was a season to remember for this women's basketball program who turned the culture around and will be back making noise in the OUA once again in 2022-23.Â
