Women's basketball opened up their 2022-23 season with a dominating 79-45 win over Lakehead on Saturday night in Thunder Bay. The black and gold were led by
Vanessa Hughes (Hamilton, ON/) who had a magnificent performance in the win. The fourth year guard put up 23 points going 9-for-20 from the field with five 3-pointers. She also added six rebounds and three steals.
Maddy Adams (Drumbo, ON/) also had a strong game with 12 points and eight boards while rookie
Ghiselle Poblete (Brampton, ON/)Â put up 11 points. Leading the way on the glass was
Summer Pahl (Kitchener, ON/) who collected 11 rebounds while also adding four steals.Â
Waterloo led the game from start to finish outscoring Lakehead 25-18 in the opening quarter and then putting down the pedal in the third with 22 more points while Lakehead could only find seven.
The Warriors look to go 2-0 on the young OUA season Friday night at 6pm against the defending OUA and U SPORTS Champions, TMU Bold in Toronto before returning to the Carl Totzke Court on Saturday for their home opener against the Windsor Lancers.Â
